"April"
International
Sporthorse Registry / Oldenburg Registry North America
Main Mare Book Mare
1979 - 2000

April was born on May 20,
1979. She is 15.2 hands, chestnut with a faint star, and has no other markings.
April is approved with the International Sport Horse Registry/Oldenburg
Verband North America, and is a Jockey Club Registered Thoroughbred.
I purchased April back in 1994, from her trainer. April was shown extensively on the Illinois A and B circuit as a Children's Hunter. In her final year of showing, April was Champion or Reserve at every show.
April had two wonderful colts
by the Oldenburg stallion, Alpenstern when I purchased her. These two fine
colts were showing on the Illinois A hunter/jumper circuit. Unfortunately,
we have heard that one of April's sons has passed on. Her other son,
PrimeTime, is showing successfully with his amateur owner in the Hunter
divisions.

April and Daxx showed together
while Daxx was a suckling. At 16 years of age, April won the Warmblood
Mares and Foals class at an AHSA/USDF Dressage Breed show, beating German
branded Warmblood mares half her age, and their foals!! They brought
home 2 blue's for their two classes! Again, April's conformation, movement,
and temperament are ideal for breeding today's modern Warmbloods.

After Daxx was born, we bred April to the Oldenburger stallion, Le Champion, who also stood in California at De Vito Equestrian Center. This fantastic cross produced the outstanding young filly, La Championita HF, who was born June 3, 1996. This cross produced great temperament, outstanding movement, and excellent conformation, and what a jump! Le Champion carries a significant amount of Holsteiner blood through the stallion, Landadel, as well as the blood of the "stallion of the Century," Furioso II. Grace stands 16.2 hands at 4 years! Grace foaled on May 18, as she was bred to Coriander, a Holsteiner Verband stallion. April's first Grandchild!!

Since this cross proved to be quite successful, April was bred in 1997 to the Holsteiner stallion, Regulus, owned by the Peterson's of Hartland Equestrian Center, Hightland, Michigan. Regulus' first foal crop produced type, temperament, conformation, and extravagent movement! This beautiful dark bay filly, Replikah, will be an outstanding dressage, hunter, or jumper prospect. Foaled May 20, 1998 she is available. See this beauty below!!

April's foals have won numerous
Produce of Dam and Breeder's Group classes, as well as individual Grand
Champion and Reserve Championships at every AHSA Dressage breed show held
in Wisconsin!! We think this is fantastic for a Thoroughbred mare to have
her foals continue to beat extremely expensive Warmblood mares and foals!
Her filly Replikah scored an 8 on type at her foal inspection, as did her
filly Chloe!
April has a very interesting pedigree. At first glance, her pedigree looks rather plain and uninteresting. However, if we go beyond the fifth generation, we find that April is very royally bred. Her bloodlines carry the blood of some of the Thoroughbred industry's most famous stallions.
April carries the blood of the reknown stallions Hyperion, Blenheim II, Nearco, Ribot, Sir Ribot, Cicero (1902), Man O' War, Teddy, Bay Ronald, and Dark Ronald. These stallions are very well known for producing outstanding sporthorses, and their blood is sought out yet today. Dark Ronald is considered a foundation sire in the Holsteiner breed today. April has Dark Ronald many times on both her top and bottom. The Grand Prix jumper stallion MAXIMUM CLEARANCE has many of these same bloodlines. We also find out that April is related to the world-famous stallion, Ladykiller! April shares a large percentage of the same bloodlines that Ladykiller was produced from, including St. Simon, Chaucer, Cyllene, and The Tetrarch. My documentation shows that Half Crown, Skip Stone, and Love Time are all three decended from the same bloodlines as Ladykiller.
Ribot was a multiple European champion and is regarded as the best of his generation. He was a foal of 1952. His breeder the Italian genius Federico Tesio, is regarded as the "Wizard of Dormello" for his outstanding success at breeding multiple stakes winners and champions from relatively inexpensive stock. Tesio is regarded by pedigree gurus as probably the greatest breeder of all time. Tesio was unimpressed with Ribot as a yearling, he was small and had a fiery temper. As a result, he named him Ribot after an Italian artist he thought very little of. However Tesio did not live to see Ribot become the toast of Europe and one of the greatest Thoroughbreds to ever grace the turf. Ribot was imported to Darby Dan Farm in Lexington, KY, where he stood until his death. His most notable sons were Graustark, His Majesty and Arts and Letters.
With three crosses to those very famous bloodlines, it is no wonder that April and her foals are such outstanding athletes.
April has been a valuable
broodmare in many ways. With her sweet disposition, excellent basic paces,
world-class bloodlines, jumping ability, and very good conformation, she
is a very valuable broodmare. April's last foal was in 2000, and she was
euthanized in July due to a severe bone infection. Her bloodlines will
live on with her three Daughters and their offspring: her first Premium
daughter (La Championita), and her first Premium Grand Daughter (Coeur
de Championne). I will forever be grateful to her for the foals she gave
me.
