Leolita returns to Vermont (December 19)
A short whine. Lola has left to go back to her home in Vermont. I already miss that wild chestnut mare. She was the sweetest thing and is an incredibly good mother. Katie is hoping to bring her slowly back into riding shape by spring. I'll post here if they return to the competition arena.
Article in Hunter & Sporthorse Magazine (November 13)
Several months ago I was contacted by the editors of Hunter & Sporthorse Magazine for an interview on an article they were publishing about the breeding business.
The article is out in the current issue, the November/December issue. The article is entitled "When Stallions Stamp Their Breeds" and begins on page 29. I would like to thank Shorthorse Studios for allowing the reprinting of the photos she has taken of my horses for this article.
Back from the Stallion Testing! (November 12)
I've just returned from 5 days in Cincinnati, at Paxton Farm, for the conclusion of the 2007 Stallion Performance Testing.
While I was there I represented Midwest Breeders Group and hostessed a party presented by MBG on Thursday night, for the testing staff, stallion owners, and spectators. It was a wonderful event! I was also there to present an award on behalf of Midwest Breeders Group, to the overall highest scoring stallion bred here in North America. The winner of that award was Ken Borden Jr, of Little Bit Farm in Illinois!
I was able to shoot many photos of the stallions as they were presented. You can access my Flickr account to see them. Here are just a few photos.
Special filly - Lyrical (October 8)
I'm so pleased to see how well Grace's daughter, Lyrical, is maturing. She was my second crossing of the R-line from Rubinstein in Grace (first was Royal Champion or "Roo", by Royal Diamond). The cross continues to be one I will use, with Reggie, this year's colt being sired by Routinier by Rohdiamant, and next year, Grace will hopefully have a foal by Redwine by Rotspon.
Althought she is only a 2 yr old, she's beginning to show the promise of becoming a stunning mare. I can't wait to see what next Spring will hold for her!

Babalou update! (October 5)
Had a fabulous email today from Babalou's owner. Babalou is the 2006 colt sired by Balou de Rouet, out of Cece (and his the full brother to Bunny). He has a fantastic pedigree, by Balou de Rouet (who is a son of World Cup and Olympic Gold in Show Jumping, Baloubet de Rouet), out of a mare by the GP stallion Coriander (by Coriolan) out of a mare sired by Le Champion (by Landadel).
She sent me some wonderful photos, which I just have to share. I'm so excited, he looks fantastic. They are raising him as a stallion prospect, and I can envision many mare owners lining up to breed to this handsome fellow.
Outrageous HF showing well (September 12)
Had a lovely email not too long ago from "Bruiser's" owner, Glenda. They showed in-hand twice this year with good success. At the KDA Breeders Classic I show, they earned a lovely score of 76.2% in their class. At the DA Breeders Classic II show, they earned a 72.6%. Congratulations!
To update my previous news post, Grace is in foal to the Hanoverian, Redwine!
Another quick update, weaning is going very well. All 3 fillies are weaned and enjoying each others company as well as that of the remaining nursing mares.
Updated news: Inspections and Mare reports! (August 24)
I have been quite remiss in keeping the news up-to-date. So sorry about that.
First, we for sure have 2 mares in foal for next year. Cece is in foal to Abke by Accorado I, and Ripley is in foal to Werbellin. Grace was bred to the Hanoverian Redwine and we should know in a week if she is in foal.
Inspection Report: The GOV inspection was nearly rained out, however we got through it quickly enough. Grace's colt Reggie received a premium! I hosted the RPSI this past Wednesday, and Sophia received a Gold premium and Savannah was a Silver. We again were nearly rained out, however the sun shined brightly for about 4 hours and we got it done!
Thank goodness!
Updated news: Weltissimo HF (July 17)
I received a lovely email today about Weltissimo, aka "Eeyore," from his owner Lisa:
Eeyore & I just got back from the "B" show in Kentucky, where we were the Non-Pro Champions. Hooray! Eeyore was frisky on warm-up day, but was great on his show days. Jumps, lead swaps, etc. At six years old, Eeyore looks mature now, and lots of people commented on how handsome he is and how well he's jumping.
Wonderful News!!
RPSI here August 22!
The Rheinland Pfalz Saar International will be here for a Mare & Foal inspection on August 22.

Cece and Ripley in foal for 2008 (June 21)
Both Cece and Ripley have checked in foal for 2008. Cece was checked in foal Monday and again today, Thursday. She has been bred to Abke, the Accorado - Contender - Raphael son. What a wonderful pedigree that foal will have!
Ripley checked in foal today to the Hanoverian stallion Werbellin, with twins. The vet reduced the small twin and we have our fingers crossed she will maintain the single pregnancy. She will be re-checked Monday (Update: She is still in foal, with only 1!).
Both Grace and Leolita are on schedule to be bred. We're hoping to take Leolita up to the vet clinic over the weekend. Grace will hopefully cycle and be bred within 2 weeks.

Update on Outrageous! (June 1)
I received a lovely email update on Bruiser (Outrageous HF):
Hi Stephanie
Outrageous and I attended our first show this past week. We were down at the Kentucky Horse Park for the Breeder's classic. He did extremely well, placing 2nd in 3 year old colt/gelding sport horse and another second in his RPSI breed class. We stayed for the dressage show hoping to compete in an into class on Sunday. Unfortunatley his feet were sore ( he is barefoot ) so I scratched. I was however able to ride around the show ground and arenas which was a great experience for a baby. He was fantastic, this horse has such a great mind and attitude.
Glenda
Congratulations!!
Update on Eeyore! (May 7)
I received a lovely email update on Eeyore (Weltissimo HF):
Eeyore is looking & jumping SUPER, and just started out his year at three-foot at a B-rated show. he was Reserve Champ in both the Low and Pre- Green divisions. Lead changes--very good! Jumping stye--excellent! I think he won five classes total in three divisions, with three or four seconds. He didn't need to be lunged and never spooked at anything all weekend, despite storms and problematic winds (jumps kept blowing over during classes!).
Huge Congratulations!!
Congratulations to Tracy and Le Fleur du Championne HF!
I was thrilled to see in the March issue of the Equester, the official publication for the Wisconsin Dressage and Combined Training Association, that Tracy Kissel and Le Fleur du Championne (Westfalen mare by Freestyle out of our mare La Championita, bred by Hopeful Farm Sport Horses) was Reserve Champion at Training level in both the Open and Maiden divisions, and were Grand and Reserve Champion at First Level in the Open and Maiden divisions, and was also the winner of the Nairobi Memorial Award (awarded to the highest scoring mare in any division), for 2006! Their Training Level scores were over 72%, and their First level scores were over 65%! Huge Congratulations!!

First Foal of the year - a Filly! (Mar. 27)
Our mare Replikah presented us with an outstanding filly by Stedinger early Monday morning, just after midnight. The foaling was fast, and this spunky filly was up in a short time. She is the same color as her mother at the moment, a mahogany bay with no white. She may have a few white hairs on her forehead just like her mother. We're searching for a name for her, either starting with R as her mother, or S as her sire. Currently you may watch them on the Barn Cam, the link is below.
New: Mare Foal Cam! (Mar. 5)
Our Mare Camera is online! The cam will be 'Live' from about 4:30 pm to about 5am daily. If the mares are inside due to bad weather, or we have her in because she is close to foaling, we will have the cam Live all day. The first mare we are watching is Replikah. She is due March 25 but should come at least 1 week early.
We will be discussing the mares and the cam on my Forum, so sign up for a username and password! To view the cam, click here. You must enable Active X on your computer. If you cannot view the cam, I have a Zipped file with the viewing software available for download. This file can be found on my Forum.
We have SIX mares to foal this year, so it will be an active camera until June!

by Stedinger out of Replikah, due late March
by Sempatico M out of Ripley, due mid-April
by Balou de Rouet out of Coeur de Championne, due early May
by Sir Donnerhall out of Leolita Ster, due late May
by Routinier out of La Championita, due late May
Updates to our foaling barn (Feb. 13)
I've decided to put an infra-red heater over one of my large foaling stalls, in the event that we have an early foal or a sick horse that may require supportive care in witner. Our main barn is insulated, but is not hooked up to the camera system. Having the heater over a foaling stall will also allow me to observe that horse via the camera system. The system should be installed and ready to go by the end of this February.
This is a poem I've had on my website previously. By popular demand, here it is. (February)
When I am Old......
I shall wear diamonds
And a wide brimmed straw hat
With ribbons and flowers on it
And I shall spend my Social Security
On white wine and carrots And sit in the
alley of my barn And listen to my
horses breathe.
I will sneak out in the middle of a summer's night
And ride the dappled mare
Across the moonstruck meadow,
If my old bones will allow.
And when people come to call,
I will smile and nod,
As I walk them past the gardens to the barn
And show, instead, the flowers growing
there in stalls fresh-lined with straw.
I will learn to shovel and sweat and
Wear hay in my hair as if it were a jewel.
And I will be an embarrassment to all
Who look down on me
Who have not yet found the peace in being free
To love a horse as a friend,
A friend who waits at midnight hour
With muzzle and nicker and patient eyes
For that's the kind of woman I will be
When I am Old.

Updates on two of Grace's offspring (December 12)
We have a few updates on two of Grace's offspring:
La Fleur du Championne, owned by Tracy Kissel, has been doing very well in her dressage showing this year. Tracy and "Teá" have been earning scores in the high 60s and even the 70s at both Training and First level. Teá is a Westfalen mare by Freestyle, out of Grace.
Grace's colt, Royal Champion, or Roo, is reportly doing wonderfully at his home in Michigan. Regina reports that he is as sweet as ever, and he's grown, standing about 17H now. He will be three in the spring, ready to start under saddle! Roo is sired by Lisa Wilcox's former mount, Royal Diamond.
2006 Recap
We enjoyed another good year in 2006. The 2006 news has been archived.
