Breeding Protocol
Help for First Time Breeders

We had 100% success rate in 2002!

The following breeding protocol have been established to assist mare owners with the efficient return of paperwork for breeding, to ensure all paperwork is accurately and timely returned to ensure a successful breeding.

1. Fill out and return signed contracts (2) with booking fee.  One copy will be returned for your file.

2. When mare shows first sign of heat, have your veterinarian come out and do a reproductive check up, including a uterine culture.  At this time, together you should begin to fill out the Mare ID and Mare Information sheet.  Call Hopeful Farm Sport Horses with an approximate date of next heat for breeding (your vet can give you an approximate date).

3. When the uterine culture report is returned, finish filling out the Mare Information sheet, and return it with the Mare ID sheet to Hopeful Farm Sport Horses, along with the balance of the Stud Fee and Container and Collection Deposits.

4. On the first day of your mare’s next heat cycle, have your veterinarian ultrasound your mare to determine breeding date.  Fill out the Semen Request Form.  Call the farm (608.835.1820) no later than 8:00 pm CST the day before semen is to be collected.  Be sure to leave ALL the information as noted on the Semen Request Form. We collect Monday through Friday unless the stallion is at a show.  Remarkable's semen has excellent motility, so if you need to inseminate on the weekend, order for a Friday collection so you will have semen Saturday.  We generally ship 2 insemination doses.

5. When your veterinarian inseminates your mare, have him/her fill out the first part of the Pregnancy Report by filling in the date(s) she was bred.  You must also fill out the AWR Insemination Report.  Make copies & forward as directed on the bottom left side of the Report.

6. After your mare has been inseminated, schedule your vet to return approximately 15 -17 days later to determine pregnancy.  Fill out the information required on the Pregnancy Report.

7. Your mare must be ultrasounded again, around day 55, to confirm pregnancy.  Have your veterinarian fill out the remaining information on the Pregnancy Report and sign it, and return it to HFSH.

8. Hopeful Farm Sport Horses can then return the balance of your Deposits and issue you a correct breeding certificate.
